And this was why the Jews 1were persecuting Jesus, 2because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working. ”

This was why the Jews 3were seeking all the more to kill him, 4because not only was he 5breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God 6his own Father, 7making himself equal with God.

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, 8the Son 9can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Fathera does, that the Son does likewise.

For 10the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And 11greater works than these will he show him, so that 12you may marvel.

For as the Father 13raises the dead and 14gives them life, so 15also the Son gives life 16to whom he will.

that all may honor the Son, just as they 19honor the Father. 20Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

Truly, truly, I say to you, 21whoever hears my word and 22believes him who sent me has eternal life. He 23does not come into judgment, but 24has passed from death to life.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, 25an hour is coming, and is now here, when 26the dead will hear 27the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear 28will live.

29For as the Father has life in himself, 30so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.

Do not marvel at this, for 32an hour is coming when 33all who are in the tombs will hear his voice

and come out, 34those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
